Entertainment news site TMZ has owned up to getting it wrong after announcing that pop star Beyonce would make an official appearance at the Democratic National Convention Thursday.

Speculation swirled ahead of the final night of the convention in Chicago that it would have a surprise guest. TMZ indicated it would be Beyonce Knowles-Carter, citing unnamed sources.

“Multiple sources in the know tell us Queen Bey will be the big surprise performer as VP Harris officially accepts the Democratic Party’s nomination to run for president,” TMZ wrote in an article Thursday.

But Ms. Knowles-Carter didn’t appear. TMZ issued a correction at 12:30 a.m. Friday, quoting one of her songs: “We gotta lay our cards down, down, down. … We got this one wrong.”

“Beyonce was never scheduled to be there. The report of a performance is untrue,” her representative told The Hollywood Reporter.

The star’s music still had a presence at the DNC, as her song “Freedom” was played as Vice President Kamala Harris walked on and walked off the stage.
