CHICAGO — Gov. Gretchen Whitmer praised Vice President Kamala Harris as being “tough, tested and a total badass,” on the United Center stage Thursday night.

The Michigan Democrat got big cheers at the Democratic National Convention. She started off talking about her reputation as “Big Gretch” and as a woman who is known how to “GSD — get stuff done.”

She said Ms. Harris is “strong enough to come up with a plan” when situations arise.

The Democratic presidential nominee “gets us. She sees us. She is us.”

She hit on former President Donald Trump for not knowing the struggles of the average American — a theme similar to other speakers on all four nights of the convention.

“Donald Trump doesn’t know you at all,” she said, joking that his first word was probably “chauffeur.”

“You think he’s even been to a grocery store?” Ms. Whitmer said, adding that Mr. Trump probably thinks that “that’s what the chauffeur is for.”

She was one of the names discussed and rumored as a potential running mate to Ms. Harris, but said she said she would rather stick to focusing on Michigan as her role of governor.
