CHICAGO — Sen. Elizabeth Warren made the plea from the United Center stage Thursday to elect Vice President Kamala Harris as president because she “gets it.”
Ms. Warren received a minutes-long standing ovation as she talked about Ms. Harris’ career as a prosecutor and threw shade at former President Donald Trump’s criminal record.
Mr. Trump became the first president to become a convicted felon in late May after he was found guilty of falsifying business records in his New York hush-money case involving porn actress Storm Daniels.
“Kamala Harris stepped up. She enforced the law, she fought the giant banks and delivered billions of dollars of help to families,” Ms. Warren, Massachusetts Democrat, said. “And that is the difference between a criminal and a prosecutor.”
She said she loves Ms. Harris because “she gets it.”
Ms. Warren argued that Mr. Trump is out of touch with the real struggles of Americans and has no plans to help them.
“When did he ever fill up a gas tank or worry about a grocery bill? The only bills he worries about are from his criminal defense lawyers,” she said.
Ms. Warren was a Democratic rival of Ms. Harris in the 2020 Democratic race for president. The two women also served in the Senate together.
“Kamala Harris can’t be bought and she can’t be bossed around,” she said.
