CHICAGO — Former Trump White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention on Tuesday, saying she saw behind the scenes that Mr. Trump is a phony.
“I was a true believer. I was one of his closest advisers,” Ms. Grisham said of her former boss. “Behind closed doors, Trump mocked his voters. He calls them basement dwellers. He has no empathy, no morals, and no fidelity to the truth.”
She resigned from her White House post on Jan. 6, 2021, as the pro-Trump riot took place at the Capitol.
“I couldn’t be part of the insanity any longer,” she said.
She’s advocating for Ms. Harris, she said, “because I love my country more than my party. She has my vote.”
Ms. Grisham was a press aide to Mr. Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. She also later served as press secretary to former first lady Melania Trump.
In her brief stint as White House press secretary, she held the distinction of never holding a briefing with reporters.
She has turned her Trump opposition into frequent appearances on left-leaning cable networks.
