A free agent punter claims the Commanders asked him to take down a video showing his recent tryout at the franchise’s Ashburn, Virginia, training facility. Drue Chrisman hasn’t removed his post and called out the NFL for being “no fun.”
Chrisman had a stint with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2021 and 2022, but his career now consists of tryouts with NFL teams as he tries to land a roster spot. The Ohio State product is documenting his journey with videos on social media.
His most recent video, detailing his workout with the Commanders, who didn’t sign him after inviting him to work out, racked up more than 1 million views on X in less than 48 hours.
After the video went viral, Chrisman said he got a request from the Commanders.
“Pls take down all social media posts that show anything Commanders,” a screenshotted text message to the punter said.
The video is still up.
“No Fun League,” he wrote on X, referring to a common criticism of the NFL.
The punter doubled down on Monday, tagging the Commanders’ social media account three times in a behind-the-scenes look at his original video.
“Please nobody tag the @Commanders,” the 27-year-old sarcastically wrote on X as he tagged the franchise. “I would hate for them to see I made another video and get in even bigger trouble by the big bad NFL @commanders. So please I’m begging DON’T tag the @commanders.”
The Commanders declined to comment on the situation.
