CHICAGO – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez bashed former President Donald Trump in her prime-time speech at the Democratic National Convention Monday, saying he’s motivated by greed instead of patriotism.

She walked out to loud applause and people chanting, “A.O.C! A.O.C! A.O.C!” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, New York Democrat, told the crowd that Vice President Kamala Harris is more for the working class than Mr. Trump.

“We know that Donald Trump would sell this country for a dollar if it meant lining his own pockets and greasing the palms of his Wall Street friends,” Ms. Ocasio-Cortez said.

“And I, for one, am tired of hearing about how a two-bit union buster thinks of himself as more of a patriot than the woman who fights every single day to lift working people out from under the boots of greed, trampling on our way of life,” she said. “The truth is, Don, you cannot love this country if you only fight for the wealthy and big business.”

She said Ms. Harris is “for the middle class, because she’s from the middle class.”

The liberal “Squad” member was the first speaker on the convention’s first night to mention the war in Gaza, saying Ms. Harris is “working tirelessly to secure a cease-fire in Gaza and bringing the hostages home.”

She has been one of the most vocal lawmakers in Congress about the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war.

Ms. Ocasio-Cortez supported President Biden when he was refusing to drop out of the presidential race after his shaky debate performance with Mr. Trump. In her speech, she thanked him for his “leadership.”
