Former President Donald Trump urged Americans on Wednesday to listen to a “perfect” recording of his conversation with X owner Elon Musk, saying audio problems were to blame for the odd sound of his speech in the Monday night livestream.

Mr. Trump’s two-hour talk with Mr. Musk focused on a long roster of policy issues, but listeners said the former president’s voice sounded strange, like he was slurring, lisping or had a loose retainer in his mouth.

Mr. Trump, posting on Truth Social, said audio issues were to blame for his odd sound.

“Unfortunately, because of the complexity of modern day equipment, and cellphone technology, my voice was, in certain areas, somewhat different and strange. Therefore, we have put out an actual, and perfect, recording of the conversation,” wrote Mr. Trump, the Republican nominee for president.

Mr. Musk posted a version with “higher quality audio.” The refurbished version seemed to correct the problem, with Mr. Trump’s voice sounding normal.
