Lauren Coughlin is cresting on the LPGA Tour at the perfect time.

The eight-year pro from Chesapeake, Virginia, finished tied for third at the year’s first major, the Chevron Championship, in April. She backed that up with a fourth-place finish at another major last month, the Evian Championship, before taking home her first LPGA victory with a win in her next tournament, the CP Women’s Open in Calgary.

After her first-ever top-ten finishes at a major and the Canadian title, Coughlin’s career-year has set her up for a likely spot on the United States Solheim Cup team in September. For the former All-American and ACC champion at the University of Virginia, playing in the premier women’s international team competition in her backyard would be especially sweet.

On this edition of District of Sports, George Gerbo sits down with Coughlin at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia, site of this year’s Solheim Cup, to discuss her recent hot streak, how she got into playing golf, and what welcoming the golf world to Northern Virginia will feel like for her.

The full Solheim Cup team will be finalized on Aug. 25, and the competition begins with opening ceremonies on Sept. 12. Click here for more information.
