Vice President Kamala Harris has a 9-percentage-point lead over former President Donald Trump among young voters, showing a remarkable turnaround for Democrats who struggled with the once-reliable voting bloc when 81-year-old President Biden was their nominee.
A survey conducted by research company SocialSphere and released by a Democratic super PAC known as Won’t Pac Down found that 51% of registered voters under 30 intend to vote for Ms. Harris, compared to 42% who say they will vote for Mr. Trump. The poll also found that 7% were unsure which candidate they would support.
The survey found there was no change in Ms. Harris’ lead when the race expanded to include candidates Cornel West, Jill Stein and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. In the five-way race, the poll showed that Ms. Harris still leads Mr. Trump by 9 points, 42% to 33%.
Mr. Trump had an 11-percentage-point lead among voters under 30 in a CNN poll when Mr. Biden was the nominee, shortly before the incumbent dropped out of the race. Other polls also showed Mr. Trump with a lead over Mr. Biden among young voters.
But since Ms. Harris became the Democratic nominee, she has zoomed past Mr. Trump with youth voters.
A Morning Consult poll released last week revealed that Ms. Harris leads Mr. Trump by 9 percentage points among voters younger than 35, and ahead 48% to 44% overall. Mr. Biden had trailed Mr. Trump by 9 percentage points in the same poll taken last month.
