Former President Donald Trump urged MAGA supporters on Monday not to “waste” their votes on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential bid, painting him as the liberal who should siphon votes from President Biden instead of the GOP side.

Mr. Trump’s comments on Truth Social are part of an ongoing effort to tie RFK, a scion of the Kennedy family, to legacy Democrats.

“Why did Junior’s family go so bonkers at the thought of him running against Crooked Joe Biden? Because they are Radical Left Lunatics, and they can’t conceive of their even more Liberal brother running as anything else????” Mr. Trump posted.

Mr. Kennedy, who is working to get his name on November ballots across the country, is viewed as a potential spoiler in this year’s race, though it is unclear whether Mr. Trump or Mr. Biden would suffer the most.

Mr. Kennedy is known for supporting the environment and combatting corporate interests, which should appeal to the liberal electorate. Yet he’s also known as a vaccine skeptic — a view that aligns with a conservative wing still upset over rules on the COVID-19 shots.

Mr. Trump repeatedly sends out social media messages and campaign emails painting Mr. Kennedy as part of the left.
