Former President Donald Trump’s two eldest sons are set to play key roles in building a second Trump administration if their father wins the White House in November, including helping to vet potential officials and staffers.
Persons close to Mr. Trump told Axios that Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump would focus on making sure positions are filled by Trump loyalists, but neither would actually run the transition team.
One source said Donald Trump Jr.’s goal “is to keep the John Boltons of the world outside a second Trump administration,” referring to the former president’s second national security adviser whose 2020 book bashed Donald Trump.
This isn’t the first time Mr. Trump has made politics a family affair. His daughter, Ivanka Trump, and her husband, Jared Kushner, were senior advisers during his stint in the White House.
Eric Trump’s wife, Lara Trump, was recently elected co-chair of the Republican National Committee.
Donald Trump Jr. has been very vocal during his father’s second run for the White House, and has weighed in on who he thinks his father should pick as a running mate.
He told the New York Post last month he wants to take a “very active” role in the transition team, but doesn’t think he’ll play a more serious role than that in the White House.
“Mostly just to make sure we stop some of the D.C. swamp rats and the swamp creatures from getting in there and doing their thing,” Mr. Trump Jr. said.
