As the transgender debate continues to unfold, some of the most ignored voices are the men and women who once identified as transgender before walking away from the lifestyle. These people, who have experienced profound physical impacts as a result of their experiences, often attempt to sound the alarm on what they see as stunning mistruths — damaging ways in which the medical community has handled their cases.

For this month’s “Higher Ground” event, Billy Hallowell is sitting down with two such individuals: Walt Heyer and Laura Perry Smalts. Both spent years attempting to live as the opposing biological gender, facing surgeries and other life-altering changes — all before they abandoned these quests. They’ll share their powerful journeys and why they are urging people to understand the truth behind it all.
