Three House Republicans are facing calls to resign after they refused to support Speaker Mike Johnson’s foreign aid package.

GOP Reps. Chip Roy of Texas, Ralph Norman of South Carolina and Thomas Massie of Kentucky, all members of the House Rules Committee, have threatened to vote against the bills if they make it to the floor.

Late Wednesday, the trio shot down a rule that would’ve allowed for consideration of the border bill, one of the five bills Mr. Johnson has proposed. The others include three bills for aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, and another that would allow the use of seized Russian assets for aid, plus sanctions for Russia, China and Iran. It would also include language of the House-passed legislation that requires TikTok to be sold to an American company, a bill stalled in the House.

“The three members who refuse to support the speaker’s agenda should resign from the Rules Committee immediately,” Rep. Mike Lawler, New York Republican, wrote on X Wednesday. “If they refuse, they should be removed immediately. They are there on behalf of the conference, not themselves.”

In a late Wednesday X post, Mr. Roy shot back: “Sorry, not sorry, for opposing a crappy rule that is a show vote/cover vote for funding Ukraine instead of border security.”

Mr. Johnson, who faces an increasing threat of being ousted from the speakership, added the separate border security measure to try and appease his disgruntled conservative colleagues. It has only seemed to anger them more because they say the language is “watered down.”
