Swifties can breathe easy now.
Taylor Swift’s music has been returned for use on TikTok after Universal Music Group pulled her catalog in January.
Ms. Swift’s music appeared on the platform on Thursday, after being missing for most of the year. With her music again available, users can use it to score their TikTok posts.
It is unclear if Ms. Swift’s music will remain on the platform for the foreseeable future or if it is only temporary. Despite its reappearance, music from other artists represented by UMG is still absent on TikTok.
The change could be part of a separate agreement between the label and TikTok to promote Ms. Swift’s upcoming studio album “The Tortured Poets Department,” which releases next week.
TikTok lost dozens of popular artists in January when UMG pulled its entire catalog from the platform. The label let its licensing agreement with TikTok expire after the two parties failed to reach new terms.
The issue, according to UMG, came down to TikTok refusing to pay a fair price for their artist’s music.
“Ultimately TikTok is trying to build a music-based business, without paying fair value for the music,” UMG said in a statement.
