NEWCASTLE, England — Newcastle midfielder Joelinton has signed a long-term contract extension with the Premier League club.
The Brazilian arrived from Hoffenheim in 2019 and has made 179 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 25 goals.
Newcastle, which is eighth in the league, did not give further details of the deal in a statement on Thursday.
“I feel very happy and my family is happy,” the 27-year-old Joelinton told the club website. “A lot of things have happened in my years here. I’ve learnt a lot and grown a lot, and for me to come here to Newcastle was the best decision of my career.”
Joelinton was part of the Newcastle side that reached the English League Cup final last season and earned qualification for the Champions League for the first time in two decades.
He has not featured for the Magpies since January because of injury and has subsequently undergone thigh surgery.
