A high school teacher was in court Tuesday after she was charged with convincing runaway students to work as prostitutes.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said Kedria M. Grigsby, 42, was arrested Monday on charges of child trafficking and compelling prostitution of juveniles in connection to three teen victims.

Police said the three victims — who are 15, 16 and 17 years old — are all students at local high schools in the Houston suburbs. Ms. Grigsby taught cosmetology for the Klein Independent School District.

Ms. Grigsby is accused of recruiting the troubled students by paying for motel rooms they rented.

“The investigating officer evidently determined there’s at least one occasion where Ms. Grigsby had paid for a motel room that was used in the prostitution enterprise,” the judge said during the defendant’s probable cause hearing Tuesday.

Sheriff Gonzalez said police believe Ms. Grigsby was helping the trafficking operation run by her 21-year-old son, Roger Magee.

Mr. Magee was arrested in November 2022 on similar charges and has been behind bars since.

Klein ISD said in a letter to the school community that Ms. Grigsby was let go after her arrest.

“Let us be clear: any behavior harming children is deplorable, and we will always fully cooperate with our many law enforcement partners to ensure anyone engaging in such acts is brought to justice,” the letter said.

Sheriff Gonzalez said police are talking with “additional teen victims” who have come forward after the arrest.

Ms. Grisby was released on a $750,000 bond and needs to stay away from the witnesses and other minors as part of her release.
