Former President Donald Trump rang in the beginning of the month with an April Fools’ joke — an email announcing the suspension of his bid to retake the White House.

An email sent Monday morning had a subject line that read “I’m suspending my campaign…”

Upon opening the email, people quickly learned it was a prank.

“Just kidding - happy April Fools Day!” the email said in big capital letters.

“I will never stop fighting for the American people. I will never surrender,” it said. “We can’t sit back and watch Crooked Joe Biden continue to destroy our GREAT country.”

The email then rattled off what is wrong with President Biden’s America, including “open borders, skyrocketing crime, record inflation, targeted prosecutions and humiliation overseas.”

“We all know that there is so much at stake this November. That’s why it is more crucial than ever for all Trump supporters to STAND UP to play a leading role in helping us WIN BACK THE WHITE HOUSE,” the email said.

Mr. Trump, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, then asked for 100,000 “patriots to chip in at least $5” for his campaign.

“Listen, Friend, Joe Biden just raised over $25 MILLION from the liberal “elite” in New York City,” the email said.

The Biden campaign raised more than $25 million during an event in New York City last week that featured former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.

The Trump campaign hopes to raise at least $33 million at an upcoming fundraiser at Mr. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate on Saturday. It will be hosted by New York hedge fund billionaire John Paulson.
