Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Monday attacked House Speaker Mike Johnson for trying to find a way to get more aid to Ukraine.
“If Speaker Johnson gives another $60 billion to the defense of Ukraine’s border after he FULLY FUNDED Biden’s deadly open border, the cruel joke would be on the American people,” Ms. Greene, Georgia Republican, wrote on X. “And it won’t be April Fools.”
Ms. Greene has been at odds with Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, since he pushed through a massive spending bill with Democrats to keep the government funded through September.
She even filed a motion to oust Mr. Johnson from the speakership.
In another social media post, she referenced a February poll from the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, a think tank that specializes in foreign policy, that revealed that 70% of Americans want Mr. Biden to push Ukraine toward peace talks with Russia.
“Speaker Johnson is planning to give another $60 BILLION to keep the war raging in Ukraine and go against the will of 70% of the American people,” she wrote. “Even worse, he’s going to suspend the rules to pass it.”
Mr. Johnson on Sunday tried to warn Republicans that a vote on Ukraine aid will be coming up soon, whether they like it or not.
“When we return after this [recess], we’ll be moving a product. But it’s going to, I think, have some important innovations,” Mr. Johnson said Sunday night on Fox News. “Even President Trump has talked about the loan concept where we set up — we’re not just giving foreign aid; we’re setting it up in a relationship where they can provide it back to us when the time is right.”
He mentioned the REPO Act, a bipartisan bill that would transfer seized assets from Russians to Ukraine. He said he has been discussing it with lawmakers over Congress’ Easter recess to see how it would go over.
The speaker called Ms. Greene’s motion to vacate a “distraction from our mission,” and said the two have been in discussion via text.
On Monday, Ms. Greene also reacted to a report that illegal immigrants were arrested and accused of violent crimes in Boston.
“Speaker Johnson completely surrendered all power we had in the House to stop horrendous crimes like a child rape by illegals when he fully funded Biden’s deadly open border without a fight,” she said.
