Shame on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer for lowering the standards of the Senate’s dress code (“Schumer relaxes dress code for the Senate, clears the way for hoodies and shorts in the chamber,” web, Sept. 18).

Mr. Schumer is no leader. Instead of catering to the whims of whiny Sen. John Fetterman (who is too uncomfortable in a suit and tie), he should be upholding the dignity of the Senate.

Americans don’t want to see their elected officials looking like slobs. Apparently the expression “Take pride in your appearance’” has become an artifact in the museum.

Mr. Fetterman can be as sloppy as he likes on his days off. But if he has a problem with dressing like a mensch when the Senate is in session, then Mr. Fetterman doesn’t belong in D.C.

This is a national disgrace.
