Police in Alexandria arrested Friday an escaped prisoner from Wisconsin after linking a stolen car to the fugitive.

Authorities said license plate-reading technology picked up that the car was stolen around 5 p.m. Friday. They were able to connect the vehicle to Dustin Bone, 38, and arrest him shortly after.

Bone broke out of a minimum security prison in Oneida, Wisconsin, early last week.

“This arrest is a great example of how we use the newest technology tools in our continued effort to keep our community safe,” Alexandria Police Chief Don Hayes said in a news release.

Bone was set to complete his seven-year sentence for armed robbery on Nov. 19 before he escaped. Police haven’t said what additional charges may be brought forward following his release.

The fugitive is being held in Alexandria until he can be extradited to Wisconsin.
