I’m sure American Library Association President Emily Drabinski is at the front of the parade when it comes to toppling statues that have had anything to do with the Confederacy or the slavery it fought to defend (“American Library Association faces backlash over ‘Marxist’ president, anti-Christian views,” web, Aug. 30).

Perhaps Ms. Drabinski is simply blind to the irony of being an avowed Marxist, an ideology that has been the greatest enslaver the world has ever known.

When Marxism is not impoverishing or killing people, it is enslaving them from the walls that once encircled parts of Eastern Europe to the travel restrictions it placed on citizens living elsewhere under the Marxist boot.

Marxism is the ideology of slavery. Promising what it can’t deliver, it targets the gullible and naive into accepting their chains.

Wherever it goes, this pernicious ideology has created bifurcated societies of haves and have-nots. Under Marxism, the middle class is destroyed in favor of small groups of privileged elites who lord over the crushing poverty under which everyone else must struggle.

Ms. Drabinski is either grossly ignorant of history or a willing adherent to an ideology that has enslaved, impoverished and murdered hundreds of millions of people around the world. If she were a Nazi or if she embraced the ideas of the Confederacy, she would be considered unfit for her position.

Yet slavery and the poisonous ideas of Hitler’s Germany together didn’t do the amount of damage that Marxism has left in its murderous wake.

Ms. Drabinski needs to go, and she should take a history book with her.
