Former President Donald Trump blamed the early morning attack on Israel led by a militant group on President Biden, saying that the president has undermined peace efforts in the Middle East brokered by the Trump administration.
Conservative lawmakers, and now Mr. Trump, have been calling for Mr. Biden to face accountability for the attacks led by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. So far, the early morning blitz has left over 100 dead and hundreds wounded in Israel. The Israeli Army has confirmed that an unknown number of civilians and soldiers have been captured by the militant group and taken into Gaza.
“These Hamas attacks are a disgrace and Israel has every right to defend itself with overwhelming force,” Mr. Trump said. “Sadly, American taxpayer dollars helped fund these attacks, which many reports are saying came from the Biden Administration.”
“We brought so much peace to the Middle East through the Abraham Accords, only to see Biden whittle it away at a far more rapid pace than anyone thought possible,” he continued. “Here we go again.”
Mr. Biden condemned the attacks and said that he was ready to offer “all means of appropriate support” to Israel in a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday.
Much of the ire against Mr. Biden stems from a prisoner swap deal brokered by his administration with Iran, a known backer of terrorist groups like Hamas. The deal unfroze $6 billion in oil revenue for the country, with the stipulation that the money be used for humanitarian aid.
Numerous Republicans, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana, have demanded that Mr. Biden be held accountable for the $6 billion deal.
Others, like Rep. Cory Mills of Florida, say that a domino-like string of decisions by the president, including the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, prisoner swap deal, and Chinese Spy Balloon debacle, have shown weakness on the world stage,
“Weakness invites aggression. Our adversaries see the weakness in the White House,” Mr. Mills said on X, formerly Twitter.
