In the midst of congressional chaos, House Republicans have an opportunity to sail our ship of state to calmer waters (“Trump endorses Jim Jordan to succeed Kevin McCarthy as House speaker, calls chairman a ’star,’” web, Oct. 6).

Through the election of Rep. Jim Jordan, Ohio Republican, to this constitutional office, we would not only put a representative of a crucial swing state at the helm of the House, but also place our faith in a defender of the Constitution and genuine champion of the conservative cause.

Mr. Jordan would balance the valid interests of both warring factions within the Republican Party and avoid George Washington’s prophecy that political parties would accelerate the ruin of our republic.

As speaker, he would act to curtail the Roman-style spending that has created our present inflation. He has a record to prove as much through his opposition to the Affordable Care Act, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the Inflation Reduction Act and more.

In addition, Mr. Jordan is a proud supporter of our military at a time of war through his investments in upgrades to M1 Abrams tanks, drone technology and border security. As speaker, he would fight endemic crime, liberate us from endless gridlock and enhance election integrity.

A crusader against corruption and the epitome of ethical representation, Mr. Jordan would use his gavel to return rigorous honesty to Washington.

I strongly support Rep. Jim Jordan for House speaker and encourage all representatives devoted to bipartisan success, institutional stabilization and American resurgence to cast their vote for him.
