In his recent column “Trump: Not a great man” (web. Oct. 4), Cal Thomas writes that former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric “ought to ought to disgust all but those who are in complete denial of the danger he would pose to the Constitution and the country should he be elected president again.”

This op-ed was just one more anti-Trump, gossip-filled smear job with much taken out of context by the unabashed Trump hater Cal Thomas. Mr. Thomas, as you completely failed to include any evidence of Mr. Trump’s “danger to the Constitution” in this piece, perhaps you might do so in a future op-ed.

As a Vietnam veteran, I have disdain only for those members of my generation who fled to Canada and elsewhere to avoid their obligations. Mr. Trump was not one of those. It seems clear to me that Mr. Thomas is so blinded by his hatred for Donald Trump that he is willing to sacrifice his reputation as a fighter for conservatism.

Mr. Trump was by far the most conservative president of my lifetime, more conservative even than the beloved Ronald Reagan. Any impartial review of Mr. Trump’s presidency will confirm as much.

That Mr. Trump was under 24/7 attacks from all sides of our country’s entrenched, corrupt, political, judicial and media systems makes his accomplishments all the more impressive. He is the best leader I’ve ever seen on the world stage. He stands up and fights for what he believes in, an exceedingly rare quality in a politician — and one Cal Thomas should be venerating. Instead, because he doesn’t like Mr. Trump’s personality or style, Mr. Thomas bashes the man nonstop.

Mr. Thomas, I am sure other Trump haters applaud you for your anti-Trump op-eds, but the person you most damage with them is you, and the cause you most damage is that of conservatism.
