Rep. Kevin McCarthy was the man behind the move to get former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rep. Steny H. Hoyer out of their offices in the U.S. Capitol, two Republican sources told CNN.

Rep. Garret Graves, Louisiana Republican, also told reporters Wednesday that Mrs. Pelosi’s office will be going to Mr. McCarthy, who was ousted as speaker on Tuesday.

Look, the deal is that the office that Pelosi is in right now is the office of the preceding speaker,” he said. “Speaker Pelosi and other Democrats determined that they wanted a new … speaker.” So now, Mr. McCarthy is “getting the office.”

The evictions come on the heels of all House Democrats voting to oust Mr. McCarthy, California Republican, from his position as speaker. Eight hardline Republicans also voted to remove Mr. McCarthy, providing the majority needed for the action.

An email was sent Tuesday to Mrs. Pelosi, California Democrat, from the office of interim Speaker Patrick McHenry, North Carolina Republican, saying that she needed to clear out of the office by Wednesday.

The office of Mr. Hoyer, a longtime deputy in Mrs. Pelosi’s Democratic leadership team, confirmed Wednesday to The Washington Times that his fate was similar.

“With all of the important decisions that the new Republican Leadership must address, which we are all eagerly awaiting, one of the first actions taken by the new Speaker Pro Tempore was to order me to immediately vacate my office in the Capitol,” Mrs. Pelosi said in a statement.

“This eviction is a sharp departure from tradition,” she said. “As speaker, I gave former [Republican] Speaker [Dennis] Hastert a significantly larger suite of offices for as long as he wished.”
