Kari Lake has filed her paperwork to run for the U.S. Senate in Arizona, setting her sights on the seat now held by Sen. Kyrsten Sinema.

A diehard Trump loyalist who lost her 2022 bid for governor, Ms. Lake has an announcement event penciled in for next week in Scottsdale to launch her campaign.

Ms. Sinema, a Democrat turned independent, is expected to run for reelection but has yet to announce her plans. She would face a challenge from the left, which prompted her to quit the Democratic Party.

Rep. Ruben Gallego, a progressive Democrat, is running for his party’s nod.

Ms. Lake will be running in the GOP primary race against Pinal County Sheriff Mark Lamb.

Ms. Lake, a 54-year-old former newscaster, has developed a strong base of support and plenty of detractors after running a Trump-inspired bid that turned off some moderate Republicans and helped energize Democrats.

She embraced Mr. Trump’s claim the 2020 election was stolen and expanded that charge to include the Arizona governor’s race after she lost to Democrat Katie Hobbs by 17,000 votes.
