Rep. Andy Ogles floated potential successors to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ahead of a vote to determine whether the speaker will be booted.
The Tennessee Republican listed all of the top leaders as options, including House Majority Leader Steve Scalise of Louisiana and House Majority Whip Tom Emmer of Minnesota.
Mr. Ogles’ list also included GOP Reps. Jodey Arrington of Texas, Byron Donalds of Florida, Mike Johnson of Louisiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio.
The last option on the list was former President Donald Trump, whose name was floated for the speakership this year when Mr. McCarthy was in the midst of a 15-round vote to win the job.
The list, which Mr. Ogles posted on social media, included two questions: “Do you support the motion to vacate” and “Who should be speaker?” Mr. Ogles, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, hasn’t said whether he supports ousting Mr. McCarthy.
Whether Mr. McCarthy keeps his job looked slim Tuesday morning. Enough Republicans had lined up behind Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz to boot the speaker, and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries signaled that his conference would not save Mr. McCarthy.
