The Israel Defense Forces said they killed a senior Hamas commander who was behind deadly attacks on civilians and military personnel and had led the terrorists’ naval force.

On Wednesday, the IDF confirmed a joint mission with Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service, that resulted in the death of Taysir Mubasher, leader of Hamas’ North Sector Battalion.

Mubasher has extensive experience in the military and as a commander directing terror attacks, and he is a relative to senior Hamas operatives, including Mohammed Deif, the supreme commander of the military wing of Hamas,” the IDF said in a statement.

The IDF said Mr. Mubasher was responsible for the 2002 attack on the Atzmona premilitary academy in the Gush Katif bloc of Israeli settlements that resulted in the deaths of five students and injuries to several more. Then he oversaw the manufacture of explosives that killed an Israeli soldier in 2004 also in Gush Katif, IDF officials said.

More than 300 rockets were launched at Israel from the territory under Mr. Mubasher’s command, IDF officials said.

Israeli military officials have vowed to decimate Hamas following its Oct. 7 attack that resulted in more than 1,400 mostly civilian deaths and hundreds of others taken hostage.
