Police in Los Angeles arrested a defensive starter for the NFL’s Rams early Monday morning after authorities said they found an illegal gun in his possession during a traffic stop.
Speaking to the media Monday afternoon, Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed that cornerback Derion Kendrick had been arrested.
McVay didn’t say whether Kendrick, 23, was still in custody.
“I’m just going to kind of leave it at that until I have all the appropriate information,” McVay said. “I don’t think it would be appropriate for me to speak on things that I don’t have the totality of … other than knowing he was arrested early this a.m.”
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that Kendrick was pulled over around 2:15 a.m. in Hollywood.
Responding officers found a gun and marijuana inside his car at the scene. The cornerback was hit with a felony charge of carrying a concealed weapon.
His arrest came hours after the Rams secured a 26-9 victory at home over the Arizona Cardinals.
Kendrick was drafted in 2022 out of the University of Georgia.
McVay didn’t say whether Kendrick will be available to practice or play this week.
