Police in Oregon arrested a man Friday on suspicion of killing the mother of Marty York — the actor best known for his role as Alan “Yeah-Yeah” McClennan in the beloved baseball movie “The Sandlot.”

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office in California said Daniel James Walter was taken into custody by Brookings Police in Oregon after he was named a suspect in the Thursday slaying of Deputy Deanna Esmaeel.

Authorities said Mr. Walter is currently being held in Curry County, Oregon. He was dating Deputy Esmaeel at the time of her death.

“This is the hardest post I’ll ever have to write but I found out from the Sheriff’s Department last night that my mother was murdered by a man she was seeing,” Mr. York said in an Instagram post Friday. “The emotions I have are horrible right now … between rage, vengeance [and] crying.”

A manhunt for Mr. Walter began Thursday morning after Deputy Esmaeel was found slain in her home. Police said Mr. Walter had last been seen around 7:45 a.m. in Crescent City, California.

Authorities said the suspect’s vehicle was found around 2:15 p.m., and he was taken into custody by police in Oregon about five hours later.
