President Biden will appear on “60 Minutes” Sunday to talk about war in the Middle East and Ukraine, CBS News confirmed Thursday.
CBS promoted the interview on social media, and Wendy McMahon, CEO of the network’s news division, confirmed the president’s appearance during an Axios event Thursday.
The interview, conducted by Scott Pelley, will take place at the White House.
Mr. Biden appeared on “60 Minutes” last fall to discuss the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese aggression and inflation.
Mr. Biden has been criticized for the lack of TV interviews since he became president, trailing former Presidents Barack Obama and Donald Trump in terms of sit-down appearances.
The lack of interviews has underscored Mr. Biden’s aversion to answering tough questions from the media. After Mr. Biden announced his reelection bid this year, his interview involved softball questions from talk show host Drew Barrymore.
Mr. Biden has held the fewest number of press conferences of any president since Calvin Coolidge, according to data from the American Presidency Project at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
All told, Mr. Biden averages 11 press conferences per year compared with Mr. Trump’s 22 and Mr. Obama’s 20.
