House Republicans escalated their impeachment investigation by issuing subpoenas to Hunter Biden, James Biden, and associates connected to the Biden family business, such as Rob Walker.

These subpoenas, initiated by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, aim to gather testimony and financial details regarding the family’s financial dealings. Financial records revealed substantial payments to the Bidens from Mr. Walker, indicating potential influence peddling and questionable business practices, especially during Joseph R. Biden’s vice presidency.

  • The subpoenas seek transcribed interviews from various Biden family members, including James Biden’s wife, Hallie Biden (Beau Biden’s widow), and others.
  • The financial records uncovered over $1 million in payments to the Biden family from accounts linked to Mr. Walker, with Hallie Biden receiving a $25,000 payment from his account in March 2017.
  • Mr. Walker, a former Clinton administration official, was involved in a joint venture with Hunter and James Biden linked to a Chinese energy firm, CEFC, under Sinohawk Holdings.
  • House Republicans say financial records indicate more than $24 million in payments to the Biden family from foreign nations over five years.

Chairman Comer asserted these subpoenas were essential to investigate allegations of the Biden family’s benefits from influence peddling. He emphasized the significance of bank records as evidence, claiming that they revealed actions benefiting the Biden family to the detriment of U.S. interests.

The White House countered, accusing Comer of engaging in a partisan political smear to divert attention from Congress’ struggles to prevent a potential government shutdown.
