House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer said Sunday that subpoenas for family members of President Biden are “imminent” as the special counsel in the Hunter Biden probe prepares to answer questions from lawmakers.

The Kentucky Republican did not give a specific timeline for the subpoenas tied to the panel’s investigation into alleged Biden family influence peddling.

“I think the subpoenas are imminent,” Mr. Comer said on Fox’s “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.” “I would predict somewhere around two dozen subpoenas in the very near future.”

The special counsel appointed to oversee the federal government’s Hunter Biden probe, David Weiss, will sit before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday for a deposition on the case.

As some conservative critics complained that his panel’s investigation hasn’t moved fast enough, Mr. Comer blamed the delays for subpoenas on the slow process of gathering bank records and other documents from various entities.

Republicans say checks totaling $240,000 paid to Mr. Biden from his brother prior to his 2020 presidential campaign are evidence of bribes from China, a claim the White House vehemently refutes, calling the transactions a personal loan that was being repaid to Mr. Biden.

“This is a complete lie. There was no ’profit,’” White House spokesman Ian Sams posted in social media over the weekend. “They have in their possession financial records showing Joe Biden gave his brother the money, then his brother paid the loan back. They know this. Yet they lie anyway to smear the president.”

Mr. Biden has not been directly linked to millions of dollars the Biden family has received over the years from foreign business dealings.
