Just like the Grinch, Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s hold on the promotion confirmations of approximately 400 senior officers is hurting military families now living in a type of suspended “Whoville” animation (“Senate Republicans grudgingly warm to Democrats’ plan to end Tuberville’s military holds,” web, Nov. 29).

These families cannot move to their new assignments with this blockade in place. The Alabama Republican can greatly improve things for our military families by dropping it. He has already stolen the academic and athletic aspirations of senior officers’ children, who were unable to move to their new assignments in time to join the fall programs at their new schools.

Mr. Tuberville’s hold has morphed from a stance against the Pentagon’s abortion policy to a vengeful, petty payback for losing the Space Command. He can post all the pro-military stories his staff can write on social media, but he is now viewed as a divisive force in the Republican Party, and he casts nationwide doubt that the GOP can accomplish any of its platform goals.

Mr. Tuberville comes across as a bumbling politician who neither knows nor cares about the military way of life. If he maintains this blockade, he might as well put on a Grinch costume and officially steal Christmas from our senior military leader families.
