Former President Donald Trump argued that he “sarcastically” interchanges Joe Biden and Barack Obama and that it’s not a sign he’s mentally impaired.
“Whenever I sarcastically insert the name Obama for Biden as an indication that others may actually be having a very big influence in running our Country, Ron DeSanctimonious and his failing campaign apparatus, together the Democrats’ Radical Left ’Disinformation Machine,’ go wild saying that ’Trump doesn’t know the name of our President, (CROOKED!) Joe Biden. He must be cognitively impaired.’ No, I know both names very well, never mix them up, and know that they are destroying our Country,” he wrote on Truth Social Monday.
Reports have noted that Mr. Trump, 77, has mixed up President Biden and ex-President Obama multiple times in recent months, along with other mistakes. A thread posted by the DeSantis War Room’s X account this month shared videos of his fumbles.
“(NOTE: this is why his handlers won’t let him debate),” the post said.
The thread’s videos showed examples of Mr. Trump referring to Mr. Biden as Mr. Obama, or mixing up the two administrations.
A Forbes report from this month pointed out seven instances of Mr. Trump mixing up the Democratic presidents.
“Also, and as reported, I just took a cognitive test as part of my Physical Exam, and ACED it,” Mr. Trump wrote on his platform. “Also ACED (a perfect score!) one taken while in the White House. Biden should take one so we can determine why he wants Open Borders, No Energy Independence, A Woke Military, High Inflation, No Voter I.D., Men playing In Women’s Sports, Only Electric Cars & Trucks, A Weaponized DOJ/FBI, and so many other CRAZY things!!!”
Mr. Trump and others have long commented on Mr. Biden being the oldest president at 81. They say his missteps show he’s not fit for another term. The former president has said Mr. Biden isn’t “too old” to be president, only “grossly incompetent.”
A September poll from Quinnipiac University found that 61% of voters support setting a maximum age limit for candidates to be eligible to run for president, with 30% saying that age should be 70.
Similarly, the poll found that 68% of voters think Mr. Biden is too old to effectively serve another four-year term. A majority of voters, at 63%, also said Mr. Trump, who is four years Mr. Biden’s junior, is too old to effectively serve.
Nevertheless, polls show Mr. Trump as the leading Republican presidential candidate for 2024, and in some states, he’s leading Mr. Biden.
