House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner on Sunday gave rare praise to President Biden over the hostage deal between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

“I think people would expect nothing less, and certainly it appears that the administration has stepped up for that and that has been important,” the Ohio Republican said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Pressed on whether Mr. Biden deserves credit, Mr. Turner said “absolutely.”

However, it was quickly followed with cautious optimism.

“I think what’s curious though, is that this is a period that’s fraught with peril,” Mr. Turner said. “For them to be so quick to claim credit for a deal that we don’t know what’s going to come out of this, I just think it’s very dangerous.”
