President Biden’s approval rating among voters dropped to its lowest level since he took office over his handling of the war between Israel and Hamas, according to an NBC News survey released Sunday.

The poll showed that Mr. Biden has an approval of 40%, in part due to respondents disapproving of how he has dealt with the Middle East conflict.

Mr. Biden loses most among the youth of his own party, with 70% of Democrats aged 18-34 saying he has failed to properly handle Israel’s counter-offensive against the Palestinian militant group and Israel’s bombardment of the heavily populated Gaza Strip that has claimed the lives of thousands of civilians.

Among all voters, 56% approved of his handling of the war and 34% did not.

The poll also predicted that if the election were held today, Mr. Biden would lose to former President Donald Trump, the front-runner for the Republican nomination. Mr. Biden received 44% in a hypothetical match-up, compared to Mr. Trump’s 46%.

The survey was conducted Nov. 10-14 among 1,000 registered voters, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
