Chris Christie on Sunday became the latest GOP presidential candidate to take a jab at Ronna McDaniel, saying the Republican National Committee chairwoman is wrong in her abortion messaging.
Ms. McDaniel has said the Republican Party needs to rethink its abortion messaging and address it more nationally after state election losses earlier this month. She has long been criticized by conservatives and GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy as being unsuitable for RNC chair.
“Every state and its people should make its own judgment on this issue,” Mr. Christie said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” when asked if he would back a six-week abortion ban. “With all due respect to Ronna, she’s not running for president, and she’s never governed. She doesn’t know how hard these choices are and how you have to interact with people.”
The former New Jersey governor described himself as a “pro-life governor” who believes in “the sanctity of human life, but I’m not going to get into this media game of six weeks, 12 weeks, 15 weeks, 20 weeks.”
“Nobody in Washington, D.C., should rob the American people of the right to be heard in each and every state,” Mr. Christie said. “When I’m president, I won’t do that.”
