Union members at Mack Trucks ratified a new five-year contract in another win for the United Auto Workers.
The UAW announced Wednesday that 3,900 of its members voted to approve the contract with Mack Trucks, which will increase average wages by 36% by the end of the contract, with all employees getting an immediate 15% raise.
“After 39 days on strike, UAW members at Mack Trucks have voted by 93% to ratify their new contract with significant local improvements,” the union posted on X.
The contract covers Mack Trucks’ employees in Florida, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Mack Trucks Inc. is a subsidiary of Swedish carmaker Volvo.
The ratification comes after Mack Trucks’ workers rejected a previous proposal from the union that they said did not go far enough. The former proposal would have seen wages rise by 19% and give workers an immediate $3,500 ratification bonus.
The UAW is in the final stages of a separate round of ratification votes across the country as workers at General Motors, Ford and Stellantis vote on their respective tentative agreements. While approval is generally strong across the board, there are some doubts that GM workers will approve their own deal after high-profile rejections in Michigan and Indiana.
