House Speaker Mike Johnson made it clear Tuesday that he supports former President Donald Trump’s bid for the 2024 Republican nomination.

“I have endorsed him wholeheartedly,” Mr. Johnson, Louisiana Republican, said on CNBC. “Look, I was one of the closest allies that President Trump had in Congress.”

Mr. Johnson praised Mr. Trump’s first term in office, crediting his policies for creating a strong economy.

“I am all-in for President Trump,” he said. ’We have to make Biden a one-term president.”

Mr. Johnson won the speaker’s gavel last month after rebellious House Republicans led by Trump acolyte Rep. Matt Gaetz ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the speaker’s chair.
