A man in Fairfield, Ohio, is in critical condition after the lawnmower he was riding flipped into a pond, nearly causing him to drown.
The man was mowing next to the pond Tuesday when the machine banked into the water and pinned him. Police and fire personnel rushed to the scene at 12:15 p.m.
“Our personnel arrived to find a male under a lawnmower on the edge of the pond. He was submerged under the water — unconscious, unresponsive. Our folks took the mower off of him and quickly threw him onto the cot and got him in the back of the paramedic unit where paramedics started lifesaving measures,” Fairfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Randy McCreadie told WLWT, a Cincinnati NBC affiliate.
Authorities have not figured out how the lawnmower tipped. The machine operator was an employee of All Season Lawn & Snow, based in Richmond, Indiana, 40 miles northwest of Fairfield, according to the Journal-News newspaper.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the incident, the agency told WLWT.
