Trevor Williams, pitcher for the Washington Nationals, slammed the L.A. Dodgers for inviting the drag queen crazies, Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, to receive an award at “Pride Night” game festivities because, he wrote on Twitter, the group “makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery” of the Catholic faith.

As every good Boston fan knows, the Nationals suck. But finally, the team’s got something worthy to note, and his name is Trevor Williams.

Why? He dared take on the darlings of today’s left: the LGBTQ loons. And he did so for love of God. Taking on the left is never easy because leftists don’t debate to win on merit, but rather seek to destroy by whatever means available — lies, threats, intimidation, physical assaults and more. But taking on the left while standing strong for God — well, that’s remarkable in today’s world, no matter the team.

“As a devout Catholic, I am deeply troubled by the Dodgers’ decision to re-invite and honor the group ‘The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence’ at their Pride Night this year,” Williams tweeted.

He went on: “To invite and honor a group that makes a blatant and deeply offensive mockery of my religion, and the religion of over 4 million people in Los Angeles county alone, undermines the values of respect and inclusivity that should be upheld by any organization.”

He went on some more: “Creating an environment in which one group feels celebrated and honored at the expense of another is counterproductive and wrong. It is a clear violation of the Dodgers’ Discrimination Policy … It seems the Dodgers have made an exception in this case, doubling down that this group — which grossly disrespects and openly mocks many of the traditions and beliefs that Catholics hold most dear — should be celebrated.”

And then he went on even more: “I also encourage my fellow Catholics to reconsider their support of an organization that allows this type of mockery of its fans to occur.”

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw wasn’t thrilled with his team’s decision to give out an LGBTQ award to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, either, pressing for team execs to push up its planned “Christian Faith and Family Day” celebrations to July 30. So kudos to Kershaw, too.

Truly, anyone who steps outside one’s self to take on the evil of the left and possibly, quite probably, jeopardize fame, fortune, celebrity lifestyle and career, all for principle and faith — anybody who does that deserves kudos. Even a player for the sucky Nationals — the team that brought helmet-throwing, perpetually crying, always arrogant Bryce Harper to the forefront; the team that inspired the Defector headline, “At Least The Nationals Are Finding Novel Ways To Suck”; the team that gave the Facebook world the “Washington Nationals SUCK” page, described as a social media gathering place for “anyone who thinks the nationals are a bunch of wanna be red sox.” Yes, it’s a thing. So is the Google group, “The Washington Nationals Suck;” the Instagram “Washington Nationals HATE Page;” the America’s Future nonprofit blog, “The Nationals Suck;” and the Washington Post’s September 2022, tally, “Nationals reach 100 losses in 8-0 defeat to Braves” — with the “suck” obviously implied.

“Do the Nats suck?” asks Twitter handle, @dotheNatssuck. Yes. Yes they do.

But not Trevor Williams.

“As Catholics,” Williams tweeted, “we look to Jesus Christ and the way He was treated and we realize that any suffering in this world unites us to Him in the next.”

In a world of evil spun as good and wrong represented as right — in a sports world where the baddest actors, the most arrogant players, the worst representations of humanity are often raised to the highest levels of adoration — it’s applause worthy to find gems who stand on principle and faith. Williams is one of those gems. That he plays for the sucky Nationals should not be held against him.
