In his recent column “Trump’s old razzle-dazzle: Disastrous CNN town hall loaded with lies” (web, May 15), Cal Thomas cites what he claims are numerous lies told by Donald Trump during the recent CNN town hall.

Mr. Thomas says Mr. Trump said he would end the Ukraine-Russia war in 24 hours. Mr. Thomas also writes that Mr. Trump claimed to have finished the border wall; that Mr. Trump called CNN host Kaitlan Collins “a nasty person”; that he said the 2020 election was stolen; that he did not know E. Jean Carroll, etc.

Now, unfortunately for Mr. Thomas, none of these statements is a lie — they are all opinions held by Mr. Trump or his recollections (in the case of Ms. Carroll). Mr. Thomas reiterates Democratic talking points that are designed to convert opinions or personal recollections into facts, which can then be rebutted and used against a conservative.

This is not a column based upon thoughtful consideration, but one based on pure emotion. In other words, Cal Thomas is letting his Trump Derangement Syndrome, not his intellect, show.
