Cal Thomas has long suffered from Trump Derangement Syndrome, but his recent piece, “Trump’s old razzle-dazzle: Disastrous CNN town hall loaded with lies” (web, May 15), is so infected with TDS that one wonders if it is not meant to be a parody.

Among the supposed lies Mr. Trump told during the CNN town hall:

(1) Mr. Trump said he would end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours, but didn’t say how. Cal, that’s a statement. Where’s the lie?

(2) Mr. Trump said he finished the border wall, then contradicted himself. That’s what you say, Mr. Thomas. Where is the lie there?

(3) Mr. Trump called CNN host Kaitlan Collins a “nasty person,” then said she did a good job. Both are true, Mr. Thomas. Again, where’s the lie?

(4) Mr. Trump still promotes the fiction the 2020 election was “stolen.” This is his opinion. What’s the lie?

(5) Mr. Trump swore he did not know E. Jean Carroll, but he might have met her at a black-tie event. Since when is shaking hands with someone and knowing someone the same thing?

I could go on. Maybe Mr. Thomas should consider going to work with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who appears to be an expert in finding crimes where none exist.

It appears to me that Mr. Thomas has been permanently damaged by TDS and cannot be taken seriously, particularly on the subject of Donald Trump.

Mr. Thomas, like George Will, Jonah Goldberg and the rest, will never forgive the usurper Trump for seizing the conservative movement and exposing those false conservatives who prefer the Swamp over true conservatism.
