Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal is being investigated for battery charges in Florida after getting into a postgame spat with a fan last week.
The Wizards’ three-time National Basketball Association All-Star was exiting the floor following a 122-112 loss to the Orlando Magic on March 21 when a fan yelled, “You f—ed me [out of] $1,300, you f—!,” according to TMZ.
A police report of the incident said the comment caused Beal to walk toward a friend of the yelling fan and knock the hat off the man’s head, contacting the side of his head at the same time.
“I don’t give a f— about none of your bets or your parlays, bro. That ain’t why I play the game,” Beal reportedly said, per TMZ.
The man who originally yelled apologized, according to the police report. The complaint was filed the next day.
Police reviewed video of the incident and determined there is probable cause to charge Beal, 29, with simple battery. No charges had been filed as of Tuesday, per ESPN.
“We are aware of the situation regarding Bradley Beal in Orlando but won’t have further comment until we’ve gathered more information,” the Wizards said in a statement to the network.
Beal’s attorney told TMZ, “We are cooperating with the investigation, and [Bradley’s] name will be cleared soon.”
