Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell was released from inpatient physical therapy on Saturday where he received treatment for a concussion after tripping at a private dinner earlier this month.
Mr. McConnell said in a statement that he is “glad to be home” and looks forward to returning to the Senate soon.
“I’m going to follow the advice of my physical therapists and spend the next few days working for Kentuckians and the Republican Conference from home,” he said. “I’m in frequent touch with my Senate colleagues and my staff.”
Mr. McConnell, 81, was hospitalized for just under a week before being released for inpatient rehabilitation after taking a fall at a private event at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Washington.
Doctors said Mr. McConnell suffered a minor rib fracture from the fall in addition to the concussion.
He is among several senators who have been absent in recent weeks due to illnesses.
Sen. John Fetterman, Pennsylvania Democrat, was recently admitted to inpatient care for clinical depression. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, California Democrat, was recently hospitalized for shingles.
“I want to sincerely thank everyone for all the kind wishes,” Mr. McConnell said Saturday.
