Tennis star Novak Djokovic has steadfastly resisted COVID-19 vaccination — and as a result, he’s been denied U.S. entry for the first two consequential tennis tournaments of 2023. He also has lost his No. 1 ranking.

Last December, Mr. Djokovic tested positive for COVID-19. According to a February study published in The Lancet, natural immunity resulting from at least one previous infection is equivalent to or efficaciously greater than two mRNA vaccines.

Although rare, mRNA vaccine side effects include myocarditis and pericarditis in people under age 40. Both conditions can result in death.

With this risk and research in mind, shouldn’t Mr. Djokovic’s natural COVID-19 immunity be recognized for its equivalence — nay, superiority — to vaccination?

The U.S. has an outdated, scientifically unsound blanket policy of refusing unvaccinated individuals entry into the country. Curiously, however, in spring 2022 a Department of Homeland Security watchdog reported that a number of southern border migrants failed to undergo COVID-19 testing prior to being released on domestic flights for nationwide dispersal.

The Miami Open begins this week, and Mr. Djokovic, in his quest for “number 23,” will be conspicuously absent. This will mean disappointed fans, not to mention a loss of revenue for the tournament and Miami tourism. But it’s just a microcosm of the pervasive, scientifically unsound, fascist policies affecting everyday citizens.
