Network problems among third-party services knocked out the website, mobile app and in-airport kiosks for Spirit Airlines Thursday, causing 606 of the carrier’s flights, 71% of its daily total, to be delayed.
The air carrier first disclosed the issues at 8:43 a.m. EDT Thursday. The network problems would not be resolved until just after noon.
The knock-on effects of the hourslong technical difficulties would lead to hundreds of delays and 58 cancellations, 6% of all Spirit Airlines flights for Thursday, according to flight tracking website FlightAware.
Passengers on some of the affected flights will be reimbursed. For travelers whose flights were canceled, a refund, reservation credit or rebooking will be available, with hotel, transportation and meal arrangements.
Fliers who had to wait two or more hours for a delayed flight can choose among rebooking, a reservation credit or a refund. For those who had to wait more than three hours, meal vouchers will also be provided.
“We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused,” Spirit Airlines said in a statement.
