New England Patriots cornerback Jack Jones was arrested at Boston Logan International Airport Friday, accused of having two loaded handguns and a large-capacity ammo feeding device in his carryon bag.
Jones, a 2022 fourth round pick out of Arizona State University, was going through the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint before heading onto a flight going to Los Angeles at around 5:20 p.m. when the X-ray machine picked up on the two purported guns in his bag.
Massachusetts State Police subsequently came to the checkpoint, questioned Jones, and arrested him. While Jones was ticketed to fly to Los Angeles, his ultimate destination was Arizona, police told the Associated Press.
Jones has been charged with two counts each of possession of a concealed weapon in a secure part of an airport, possession of ammunition without a firearm ID card, unlawful use of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and possession of a large-capacity ammunition feeding device.
“We have been notified that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport earlier today. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be commenting further at this time,” the Patriots said in a statement Friday.
The team’s offseason program ended earlier that day.
The seized guns marked the ninth and tenth firearms taken by TSA agents in Boston in 2023. The TSA did not specify what type of handguns Jones is accused of having in his carry-on bag.
Jones has since posted $50,000 bail and will appear for arraignment in East Boston District Court next week.
