In “Are reporters giving Biden their questions in advance?” (web, June 14), Joseph Curl explains how the president seems to be getting scripted answers to as-yet-unasked questions.

President Biden is supposed to use his brain to answer what ought to be off-the-cuff questions; that’s the entire purpose of a presidential news conference. This is no better than taking a cheat sheet into an exam.

On top of that, at a recent press conference with the British prime minister, the question on which Mr. Biden cheated came from a U.S.-government-funded organization. There’s not even a pretext of impartiality here, I guess.

All U.S.-government-funded organizations — civilian and military — should be excluded from presidential press conferences. Mr. Biden authorizes their budgets, so why wouldn’t he get a major benefit of the doubt in their “spontaneous” questions?

Mr. Curl is a credit to your newspaper and provides much to the rest of us when it comes to what’s really happening behind the curtain.
